On 4 August 2026 we celebrated our 30th anniversary with a delicious afternoon tea at Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Club. Our distinguished guests were Admiral Sir George Zambellas, Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports and Constable of Dover Castle, and his wife, Lady Amanda Zambellas. Carol Fowler, our chair welcomed Sir George and Lady Amanda, and several special guests who had been trustees over 20 years ago, she also welcomed a member of the Communications team for the Third Age Trust (TAT). Carol gave thanks to all our members, and especially our volunteers, past and present, for making White Cliffs Country u3a the thriving organisation that it is today. Sir George and Lady Amanda were also presented with Honorary Membership and both were delighted.
Sir George gave an enthusiastic and heart warming speech about the u3a and our ethos, with special note to all those who volunteer, before cutting our specially made celebration cake.
The event was attended by over 100 members, both long standing and more recent, and it was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new people. A table of memorabilia attracted much interest and a flyer charting the story of White Cliffs Country u3a was available on each table. Our area looked fantastic decorated in u3a blue and yellow.
