A talk by Russell Whitworth
AI for Everyone - Artificial Intelligence
AI (Artificial Intelligence) is no doubt here to stay; in fact, we are all often using AI without the knowledge that we are doing so.
In the workplace AI is already affecting many people by helping them get work done more quickly and efficiently. It’s doing so by enhancing decision making, communication, collaboration and other skills. Yet it’s full potential is yet to be realised.
We are the generation who have lived though many technology changes from black and white television, to personal computers, laptops, mobile phones, the internet, google and other search engines, on line shopping and not forgetting email. AI is an interesting subject and so we can learn and be better informed we have added an additional talk as part of our 2026 Talks programme, which we hope you will attend. Russell Whitworth (from Guildford u3a) has produced zoom sessions on AI for all u3a members and we are lucky enough to have him come in person to White Cliffs Country.
In this talk, Russell Whitworth looks at Artificial Intelligence and includes:
What is it How does it work What is it good for and what are the dangers and issues?
Starting with a brief look at the history of AI, this talk explains Generative AI (such as ChatGPT) and gives everyday examples of how it can be used.
We will also consider some of the issues -- such as hallucinations, fake news, and power consumption -- and look to the future of Agentic AI and Artificial General Intelligence.
Although about IT this talk will not be full of jargon, or it will be fully explained when necessary and I am sure we will learn and feel better about this technology.
Please join us on Friday 20 February at the Astor theatre at 2.00 pm. Doors will open at 1.30 pm to enable you to meet friends and purchase refreshments.
